"Oh, that's terrible," Demelza says, but she's clearly still fascinated by the entire venture. It's not something she'll ever find herself doing, she sees little reason to decorate herself in such a manner, but she knows the next time she goes into the library, she's going to look up everything she can on the subject.

"And what of that?" she asks, pointing at the man who was carrying the needle. "He put that into someone's nose."

She shivers a little, thinking about it. The needle looks so long, so frightening, and she imagines it much hurt terribly.
