"Yes," Demelza says thoughtfully. "It must be so good when you can help and so terrible when you cannot. My dear friend Dwight, he's a wonderful surgeon, he did so much for so many people and his patients were often too poor to be able to pay him much, but he was a true believer that not only the rich deserved proper care."

She pauses and smiles, "I think he'd quite like it here. I think he'd quite like you. Dwight loved to learn and was always interested in speaking with other surgeons who did know more than he."
